Hi Friend, I’m Liz

Married to my best friend and fellow photographer, Jeremy, and proud mama to a sweet soul affectionately nicknamed River Monster.

My love of photography and story telling goes back almost as far as I can remember…

The early days

Elementary school was the first time I remember photography having an impact on me. My parents bought me a neon blue 110 camera to take on field trips. By 8th grade I had started collecting Polaroids (I have about 20 today!), and in high school I took several photography classes. That was my first introduction into developing my own film and using the darkroom. I. Was. HOOKED!

Before I took those classes, I had no desire to even go to college. But after that, I knew what I was meant to do. Some of my fondest memories from college were working all through the night in the darkroom in my fuzzy slippers, drinking coffee and listening to loud music. The darkness and dim warm light, the smell of the chemicals. It was such a visceral feeling every time I walked into the darkroom.

Building a business…

I got my BFA with honors in Fine Art Photography & Film at VCU and never looked back. After years of working in photo labs and interning for other photographers, I was finally ready to launch my own career in 2014 along with my husband.

…and a family

My son was born a year after we started the business and he was my main muse.  I say “was” because he has a wicked case of “photographers child syndrome”. Meaning, he’s over it hah! But he still humors me sometimes and has been great practice over the years because he is literally never still.

Finding my purpose

When my brother died in 2008 my whole family went to LA to pack up his things, his dog and his vintage car. It was hands down one of the hardest experiences of my life, and photography saved me. I didn’t realize it at the time but documenting everything was my therapy. The piles of clothes, details of his house (he had impeccable taste), the hospital bed in his living room, the dog walks… I treasure those photos so much and to this day they are still some of my favorite images I’ve ever taken. It was during that time that I truly realized how important photography and storytelling was.

My goal as your photographer is not just to capture images of your family, but it’s to find your family connection on a deeper level and showcase that love and bond you hold so close. Your sessions with me will be full of love and laughter.
